Indonesian government decides to shut down 21 online sites suspected to provide illegal streaming/download of Indonesia movies. And I was like..seriously? Not because I feel lost, but more because IS IT NECESSARY? So, what happens after you kill them? More sites pop!

I need statistics of Indonesian illegal download now! Do people really like grabbing Indonesian movie? I doubt it. Indonesian movies are easily found in DVD shop or iTunes. And it’s not expensive. There are a  lot people waiting for local movies to be sold in iTunes. I think Indonesian producer association should check on digital buying statistics to decide if  they’re really lost.
Indonesian Producer Association claims that less and less people watch movie in cinema. Hey, just because we don’t go to cinema it doesn’t mean we pirate local movies.

I do go to cinema. But, I pick my movies. Only those who needs big screen and big sound system are worth watching on cinema. You need them to feel the sensation. Y’know, like Jurassic World or Harry Potter. On the other hand, I choose to watch drama movies on my macbook. It’s good enough. Plus, I can pause when it gets boring.
Now, please check the list of this year’s Indonesian movie release. Which movie deserves to be watched on cinema? Seriously, producers! You blame on our love to movie, but not paying attention to technical stuffs like that.

And let’s be honest,
there are not many Indonesian movies worth to keep.
Some movies are so good, I recommend them to be played in schools to start good discussion. Perhaps producers can get Education Ministry to buy good movies for student consumptions. Same thing publishers tried to avoid loss in book publishing. But, the idea is not gaining more dimes, but to encourage intellectual activity.

Anyway, I think the movie lovers' natures are changing. More and more people realise how good it is to pay for local stuffs. You just have to deliver the product well. As more of us engage in online world, provide more digital commodities. We’re willing to pay for them. Thus, producers should make use of the trends.

The attitude grows through knowledge sharing. So, instead of killing the media, we should educate people to protect local content. Most young people I knew don't have any idea they can buy movie easily in iTunes or Google Play. They simply download pirating stuff because it's all they know.

Young people who can afford going to premiere are just so busy they have no time to waste. Dropping to cinema requires special time and I’d rather use it for a nap. People watch movie on their way to office or while queuing in supermarket. We make use of our tight agenda. We need the movies on our gadget!

It's time to invest on more long lasting part of this local movie business: the mind. Government needs to create cool social image that getting local movie is easy and legal. Punishment is not so effective, but positive reinforcement does.
