Things you can't do in Komodo
Padar Island,
no human living there and you need extra energy to climb the stairs. But, the view from the top is superb. You can see the rough hills surrounded by blue ocean. Kinda makes you feel blessed to be alive.
Komodo Island
This is where the Komodo lives. They're as big as crocodile and have skin resemblant to the ground. They smell with their tangs. Be careful not to smell of blood (especially for women in period) or making a loud noise. Although they're a predator, they don't attack people if you let them alone. They also eat the corpse. So, they usually bite their preys (deer, raised around by the national park staffs) and wait until the prey died before eating it.
Some interesting things about this reptile:
- they only live in Komodo National Park (Komodo Island and Rinca Island)
- Komodo eats their babies, so as soon as their eggs hatched the babies climb trees to save themselves.
- Komodo can get osteoporosis! The researcher from Gadjah Mada University verified it from its remain and the skeleton is now exhibited in Komodo National Park Office in Labuan Bajo.
Pink Beach
White sand and you can snorkel on the beach. The tide is quite strong, I got dragged when laying on the sand.
Taka Makasar
Just some white emerge from the sea, as big as a tennis court. Surrounded by the blue ocean where shallow and strong tide interacts, you can swim and meet the turtle.
Manta Point
The place where people encounter Manta. If you're lucky you can see it, but the chance is low in the afternoon.
Kanawa Island
is perfect to wait for sunset. When the tide is low, you can see fishes running through the harbor. Starfishes are lining on the beach. There are businesses in the island: restaurant and resort. Perfect place to sip tea?
the 6 tourist spots are part of Komodo National Park, thus there are several rules we need to follow.
1. no littering. Take back your garbage, use a reusable drink water, don't eat on the island (my tour arrange lunch in the boat so we don't leave garbage in the island).
2. no taking things from the site, including plant and sand. (Airport staff will confiscated sands taking to outside Labuan Bajo).
3. no feeding Komodo. It makes them lazy, resulting in them unable to survive in their natural instinct.
It's easy, right?
