I don’t get it. As soon as I open VIU to watch the new Meteor Garden 2018, it flows without lag. It wasn’t this smooth in other streaming sites. Geez, guess I have no reason to ignore the drama now. The reviews have been great and it’s showered with praise, especially toward the leading actor, Dylan Wang. He is handsome. It feels like watching a combination of Cai Xukun, Wang Ziyi, and Lin Yanjun in one person. Hahaha. Deep inside me, I still wish my IP boys to land in good acting roles soon.
Still, 5 minutes to the series, I’m indifferent. I can’t find anything to laugh or mesmerize about. It’s not like this 17 years ago. It seems like the rich people life was really amazing and out of touch. I don’t feel the glamour here. Sanchai’s poorness is also nothing to be pitied of. She’s a hardworking person with a sharp goal: to master cookery. I forgot why did Barbie Tsu’s Sanchai go to elite school for. Was it because she got some kind of CSR’s scholarship for paupier or did her parents want her to get close to the jetset community? But, the new Sanchai had a path she wanted to go through and Ming De University is the best school for that. Looks like the same place they shoot My Mr. Mermaid—I could be wrong.
The F4 guys are treated like idols, unlike the old style where they’re feared and respected. I mean, following guys with your hands pushing shutters are not the way to respect, right? Although the guys do not give fan service, they don’t feel disturbed by those fangirls. At this point, it feels like they’re just normal handsome boys.
This Meteor Garden keeps the cliche dialogues that old fans easily recall. It actually the charm of the original story. However, do you really think they’re still relatable?
When Dao MingSi said “If apologies is useful, then we wouldn’t need police anymore”, I cracked! Baby pineapple head, in this world of social media law enforcer, is not the only one who can punish. You can easily make a post, push it go viral, and let the evil of human’s rotten hearts do the rest. Online bullying is a now day's feast and it’s enough to drive people crazy, even thinking that there’s no other way to survive.
Then, when Hua Ze Lei teaches Sanchai to handstand in order to prevent her to cry, I can’t help but frown. A Lei, the tears are coming down anyway no matter what pose you make, it’s called the power of gravitation, dear. The only difference you’ll make is that your tears won’t be flowing through you cheeks but your forehead, instead. Huh, and they dub you smart.
Well, they should’ve made Meteor Garden 4.0 instead.
Hahaha, do you think I’ve ranted enough just after watching the first episode? I might continue watching after finishing Sweet Dreams (48 eps); Lost in 1949 (45 eps)...omg.
