The books left unread
Hello, how’s your holiday?
It’s the third day of my loooong holiday and I don’t feel like going out (the only door I open is my fridge's). Part of it because of the stomach cramp and the other is that I assume it would be hectic outside. It’s just 4 days before Eid and most people are already given vacation. They might crash at the malls in my city. So, better be safe at home!
My mission today is tidying the bookshelf. I suspect at least 400 books covered in the dust there. I never really count them. Sometimes I even bought the same book twice (same title different cover edition). I know it’s stupid and such a waste of money (but, I bet the publishers love me). The best thing to avoid it is to read everything. So, when I encounter a book I remember I’ve read this before.
Huh, I've been sneezing all over the place because of the dust. The mask doesn't help much because I (still) have asthma. Kinda remind me once I join a club and they had to clean up a house. I started sneezing and cough and a senior dissed saying "some people start coughing as soon as we need to work" Whuaaah, sir, I'd be happy to pass this disease to you! Nah, I was just a little cute girl and slowly walked away from him. He might never know my suffering and probably had enough with lazy people who want to skip cleaning duty. I forgive you, Sir. But, that doesn't mean my allergy stop. It's been 15 years and I'm still getting itchy nose when surrounded by dust.
The problem is there are so many books left unread. Some books are bought because of the cover, the author, or the simple synopsis on its back. None would imagine that they don’t attract me anymore as soon as they reach my home. I blame it on the first chapter. It’s the most important part of a book. It’s where you gain my full support. Draw me in! Call my name!
Visual is also important. I’m more comfortable reading bigger font than the small one. Preferably the typeface I love Cambria instead of Times New Roman. No, I’m not asking f/or Lora, or Nunito, or Roboto (those are my current favorites), just a more friendly looking font, okay?!
Marie Kondo wrote some books you say "will be read later" usually means "never". Nah, I'm telling you, Marie, you're wrong. Take that In A Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware that I just finished yesterday (in 2 days). I had it since last year, even promised to fill my 2017 goodread's challenge with it, but I just had it waiting on the shelf until 2 days ago. See, you can't say "never". You can't lose hope. Books are just like us, human, waiting for the right time to shine (or read). Now or later, you'll get your chance eventually.
