delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)

I'm currently having delayed onset muscle soreness. It's the pain and stiffness felt in muscles several hours to days after unaccustomed or strenuous exercise. I climb down 19-floor stairs last Thursday and now I can't bend my knee without grinning.
It was okay when I reach the first floor. I even hopped on the grab bike that driving me to the office. The driver left me on the front gate and I could walk across the yard (trying to avoid the water fountain splashing all over due to heavy wind blast). It was bearable. I remember a bit shivering, but I could pull it through the bus.
However, the effect took place as soon as I got off the bus. I hardly able to walk straight. I felt disabled. I must had walked so slowly, trying to avoid contact with anyone (thank God there was barely anyone around).
Laying down was the first thing I do as soon as I got home. OMG. It's really bad.
So, emotion can be reinforcement to fulfil the task. But, it doesn't mean you'll leave without consequences. The question is just how worth is it? As for my case, it reminds me to do exercise. To keep my feet moving so in the future I won't have to feel the pain.
I googled it and found that the more I move, the pain will be relieved. Not easily, but gradually. I just finished mopping the floor now and my tendons feel better.
